The Husky Marching Band
My time in the Husky Marching Band has been one of my defining experiences as a UW student. During my four years as a member of the band, I have preformed for roughly 1,783,600 fans at home games, visited 8 of 12 PAC-12 stadiums plus Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, and represented the University of Washington in Shanghai, China. The wallpaper of this portfolio was taken at the Windermere Cup crew races and boat parade on the Montlake Cut. I have met many of my closest friends through the band, and I know that I will always be proud to be a part of the Husky Band Family!
One of the most rewarding experiences I have had in the Husky Band has been serving as the mellophone section leader my senior year. The section leaders are students selected through an interview process by our director, Dr. J. Brad McDavid, to teach fundamentals and music throughout the season to our instrument sections, to organize roster information for pep bands and other special appearances, and to generally act as leaders in the band on and off the field. What I particularly loved about being section leader was being there on audition day to welcome our new members into the Band Family and to set them up for success through the coming season and beyond. To recognize me for my four years of dedication to the band, I was honored to receive the Bow Down Award at our end of year awards banquet. This award is presented by the directors and other Senior Staff in memory of the sister of former Husky Band director Bill Bissell, who was a loyal fan of the band and the first driver in the State of Washington to sport "Bow Down" license plates.
