Husky Leadership Certificate
Experiences through the lens of Leadership Competencies: |
The Husky Leadership Certificate is a program sponsored by the Husky Leadership Initiative at the University of Washington to provide a space for undergraduate students to reflect on what they have accomplished through their actions as student leaders and how they have grown through these experiences.
I chose to complete the Husky Leadership Certificate program because I wanted to build my vocabulary. I know that I have grown as a person and a compassionate citizen through my pursuits inside and outside of the classroom, but I didn't have the words to explain my insights to others. In the certificate program we reflect on our experiences through the lens of the Student Leadership Competencies developed by Corey Seemiller at the University of Arizona. This list of 60 "leadership competencies" identifies traits and skills necessary for students in all academic disciplines to be successful in both their chosen careers and in life in general. Through the language of the Student Leadership Competencies, I have gained the vocabulary to articulate what I have learned at the University of Washington and why these experiences are valuable to my growth as a person. While completing the Husky Leadership Certificate, I chose to write about 21 Leadership Competencies that have particularly shaped my work as an undergraduate student. |
