Honors Biochemistry
Course: Biochemistry 440H, 441H, 442H
Taken: Fall 2013-Spring 2014, Junior Year
Professors: Rachel Klevit, Susan Brockerhoff, Dana Miller, Alexey Merz, David Kimelman, Richard Palmiter
This is the core course in the Biochemistry major, covering topics such as reaction kinetics, the major pathways in metabolism and biosynthesis, transcription and translation, signal cascades, and cancer genetics. The most rewarding experience for me was participating in the honors section, where we read and discussed research papers relevant to the course material with the professors. We read both classic and groundbreaking papers, and over the course of the year we were expected to understand and interpret more and more of the information ourselves. In spring quarter we each presented a paper to the class. This presentation was a opportunity to prove to my professors and peers that I have learned how to "speak the language" of biochemistry.
